We will also look at types of pressure control equipment and safety systems and learn how to minimise and control the risks when working with systems or equipment which contain fluid under pressure.

Course Description 

Module 1: If pressurised equipment fails when in use, it can lead to serious injuries, damage to property and harm to the environment. Each year in Great Britain alone, there are in the region of 150 reported dangerous occurrences involving an unintentional release of pressure, and around six of these result in fatal or serious injuries. Understanding what pressure is and how it works is the first step to reducing the risks associated with pressurised equipment. In this course we will explain what pressure is and look at the differences between static, dynamic and differential pressure. You will also learn of the various ways in which we measure pressure.

Module 2: If pressurised equipment fails when in use, it can lead to serious injuries, damage to property and harm to the environment. As module one looked at the way pressure works as a whole, this module will focus on how to apply this knowledge of pressure safety to an industry environment. We will look at how pressure is contained, how the limits can be exceeded and how equipment can fail. You will learn about stored energy and why all pressure can be dangerous. We will also look at types of pressure control equipment and safety systems and learn how to minimise and control the risks when working with systems or equipment which contain fluid under pressure.

Course Objectives

Module 1: The aim of this module is to teach you about the following subjects:
The different types of pressure
  • How pressure is measured 
  • The different units used in pressure measurement 
  • How a change in pressure can affect fluid temperature

Module 2: The aim of this module is to teach you about the following subjects:
  • The hazards of pressure 
  • Pressure safety in the workplace 
  • The preventions and controls that are used
  • The need for constant pressure awareness
