Course Description
Instrumentation, as depicted on P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) are shown by the use of various symbols and lines. P&IDs provide an overview of where and how instruments and “control loops” interface with process piping and equipment, to provide the basis upon which the safe and efficient control and operation of a process system is maintained.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course you should be able to:

Identify the symbols and lines used to depict instrumentation equipment on a P& and ID

Recognise that instrumentation components may be located both locally and remotely

Define what is meant by a control loop

Relate to any additional information provided on a drawing, including in the notes section
